Maduro se reunió con presidente de Guyana y anunció regreso de embajadora (Fotos)

Los presidentes de Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, y de Guyana, David Granger, se reunieron hoy en Nueva York con el secretario general de la ONU, Ban Ki-moon. 

A la salida de la reunión, Nicolás Maduro informó que se decidió el nombramiento de embajadores y en el caso de Venezuela, el regreso de la embajadora de manera inmediata. “Queremos relaciones de hermandad, le dije a Granger que Venezuela jamás será un país imperialista”, declaró a los medios.

Adicionalmente, reveló que Venezuela recibirá la próxima semana a una comisión técnica de la ONU para hacer un trabajo integral sobre las circunstancias de este reclamo. “El secretario general se ha comprometido a hacer un estudio de las opciones basado en el Acuerdo de Ginebra”.





Según Maduro, ha sido una reunión compleja, tensa y difícil y dijo que propuso el mencionado Acuerdo como “única vía para que canalicemos el reclamo de la Guyana Esequiba”

Por su parte, la agencia EFE reseñó que la reunión se produjo en momentos en que se ha reactivado un conflicto limítrofe entre Guyana y Venezuela por el Esequibo, una zona de 160.000 kilómetros cuadrados rica en recursos naturales.

La región de Esequibo está bajo mediación de la ONU desde la firma del Acuerdo de Ginebra en 1966, pero la disputa se agudizó después de que la compañía Exxon Mobil descubriera en mayo pasado yacimientos de petróleo en aguas en la zona del litigio.

El presidente de Venezuela dijo antes de viajar a Nueva York que en la reunión que sostendría con Granger le estrecharía la mano “con afecto y respeto”.

“Tengo una reunión con el secretario general Ban Ki-moon (…) y ha citado al presidente de la república cooperativa de Guyana, David Granger, ‘face to face’ como dicen, yo espero que el presidente de Guyana vaya, no tiene excusa para no ir (…) y yo le voy a dar la mano, con afecto y respeto”, dijo entonces Maduro.

Horas antes de la reunión de hoy, Maduro dijo que esperaba de Granger “un paso de respeto hacia Venezuela”.
