La llama olímpica de los Juegos de Invierno, que comenzarán el 9 de febrero de 2018 en Pyeongchang (Corea del Sur), fue encendida este martes a las 09h50 GMT en Olimpia (Grecia) y ahora emprenderá un largo viaje que finalizará en la ceremonia de inauguración.
En Olimpia, lugar sagrado donde se celebraban los Juegos Olímpicos en la antigüedad, la llama no pudo ser encendida de la manera tradicional, con los rayos de sol pasando a través de un espejo parabólico, debido a que el cielo estaba cubierto.

Katerina Lehou, la actriz griega que actuó como la gran sacerdotisa con un largo vestido tradicional, necesitó tres intentos para iluminar la llama.
Delante de las autoridades, entre ellas el primer ministro surcoreano Lee Nak-yon, la llama finalmente pudo brillar a la hora convenida, en la parte alta de la antorcha blanca con estrellas doradas elegida por la organización de estos Juegos.
El primer relevo de la antorcha lo completó este martes el esquiador de fondo y biatleta griego Apostolos Angelis, de 24 años, y el segundo el futbolista internacional surcoreano Park Ji-Sung, de 37 años, que jugó en el Manchester United.
Ahora la llama recorrerá 2.129 kilómetros sobre territorio griego para llegar a la Acrópolis el lunes. El martes será oficialmente entregada a Corea en una ceremonia en el estadio de mármol de Atenas.
A continuación iniciará su largo viaje hacia Corea del Sur, que finalizará en febrero, con el inicio de los Juegos.
