The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs published its report on the Global Humanitarian Outlook for 2022, in which Venezuela ranks as the eleventh country with the greatest needs in the world.

The UN Office highlighted that a prolonged and significant economic contraction, chronic inflation with episodes of hyperinflation, political polarization, and localized violence remain key drivers of humanitarian needs in the country.
They also highlighted that the deterioration of public services has had a negative impact on the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable families. In this regard, they noted that protection-related services to address violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation, including mental health and gender-based violence, have also been severely affected.
For the UN, food insecurity and nutrition are among the main concerns for the country, since the malnutrition rate increased from 2.5% in 2010-2012 to 27.4% in 2018-2020.
Before the publication of this new report, the Presidential Commissioner for the United Nations, Miguel Pizarro, regretted that Venezuela appears for the third consecutive year as one of the countries with the greatest humanitarian crisis.
“The continuous lack of public policies continues to deteriorate the quality of life of Venezuelans,” concluded Miguel Pizarro.
The other countries in the region that appear on the list are: Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala and Honduras.
