El encanto de la realeza británica cautivó al mundo (FOTOS)

Las más de 100.000 personas venidas de todo el mundo que se congregaron en las calles de Windsor para la boda del príncipe Harry y Meghan Markle salieron satisfechas con su experiencia de “cuento de hadas”.

La Casa Real británica ejerce una fascinación que llevó a mucha gente de todo el mundo, en una jornada radiante, a madrugar, viajar, pasar horas de pie y amontonarse para saludar brevemente a los recién casados cuando dieron un paseo en calesa por las calles de Windsor.

“Me emocioné mucho cuando los vi pasar”, explicó a la AFP Helen Oliver, de 50 años. “Sentí que era una parte de ello. Sentí como que me saludaban a mí.”





“Se notaba que son una pareja feliz, que es un matrimonio genuino”, dijo por su parte Lesley Ward, de 62 años.

Las pantallas gigantes repartidas por esta ciudad de 30.000 habitantes a orillas del Támesis permitieron a los asistentes vitorear, aplaudir y deleitarse con cualquier detalle de la boda presidida por la reina Isabel II.

El rugido de la multitud cuando Enrique dio el “sí quiero” penetró hasta la iglesia de San Jorge, provocando una risa entre los 600 invitados.

– Ríos de gente –

Desde las 6 de la mañana y hasta el inicio de la ceremonia, a mediodía (11H00 GMT), Windsor no paró de recibir trenes cargados de espectadores.

“Es como un cuento de hadas”, suspiraba un turista en el primer tren que partió de la estación londinense de Paddington, bautizado para la ocasión como el “Harry and Meghan Central”.

“Me desperté a las cuatro de la mañana cuando tenía 12 años para ver casarse a la princesa Diana y desde entonces estoy enganchada”, explicó Heather Miller, de 49 años, estadounidense de Colorado (oeste), mientras esperaba el tren vestida con una camiseta con la foto de los novios.

La acompañaban Karen Wallace, de 53 años, y su marido, no tan entusiasmado con todo este asunto.

Al llegar a su destino, los visitantes fueron recibidos por un cielo azul, policía fuertemente armada y escáners como los de los aeropuertos.

Tras superar esos primeros obstáculos, se unieron a los que pasaron la noche aquí, una o varias, para encontrar un buen lugar en el recorrido de la calesa descubierta.

“Hacía tanto frío la pasada noche, no he pegado ojo, pero nadie se fue”, dijo a la AFP Maureen Hayward, una jubilada que llegó a Windsor el viernes por la tarde.

“Estuvo bien. Hacía frío pero nos tomamos unas copas, tratamos de dormir, y no pudimos”, afirmaba Pippa Natschall, que vino de Australia para el gran día.

– “Nos envidian un poco” –

Los colores de la Union Jack, la bandera británica, rojo, blanco y azul, dominaron las calles, pero no fueron los únicos.

Dos canadienses vestían un traje de una pieza con la hoja de arce de la bandera de su país, otro vestía como Mr Bean, el personaje cómico encarnado por el actor Rowan Atkinson. También los había que vestían la bandera estadounidense y legiones que portaban la británica.

La ciudad era una fortaleza: había barreras por todas partes, el centro está cerrado al tráfico y numerosos francotiradores de la policía se apostaron en las azoteas.

La enfermera jubilada Cynthia Osborne viajó desde Gales (sudoeste), ataviada con un vestido con la bandera británica y un sombrero con el dragón de la enseña galesa. Unos estadounidenses pidieron hacerse una foto con ella.

“Creo que nos tienen un poco de envidia, no sólo los estadounidenses, sino también los europeos”, dijo a la AFP tras hacerse la foto.
